F200 Inline 4 is 487 lbs with a 20 shaft and 163 cubic inches. As with a lot of this kind of stuff its mostly minor differences you just have to decide where you want to draw the line in the sand.

Yamaha f200 inline 4 problems. Yamaha has answered your question with the new F200. I think weight of the 4 strokes and the lack of midrange punch has been the biggest obstacle to performance out of 4 strokes. Yamaha has found the solution to fixing those problems with their new 4 strokes the SHO Offshores and their newest sibling the F200.
If you are replacing old and tired two-strokes this new Yamaha F200 I4 should not require that you change the angle of your waterline or worry about your scuppers being underwater a real problem that some of the first-gen four-stroke V-6 outboards posed to older and experienced hulls dated prior to 2004. I am looking at a used boat with a 2004 200 hp 4-stroke. I have read articles on major corrosion problems with the 2000-2004 225 hp 4-stroke Yamas.
I would appreciate any comments you many have on these 2004 200 hp engines. The most powerful engine in this model group the F200 displaces 28 liters and has a bore and stroke of 378 x 379. The compression ratio is 1031.
The engine weighs in at 487-pounds. Thats over 100-pounds less than the other 200 hp Yamaha offering which is based on their 34 liter V6. I took a look at some Yamaha performance reports when the I4 F200 came out and concluded that the V6 has better low and mid-range torque as expected but both motors produce about the same HP at WOT.
Fuel economy was about the same at most throttle settings. Yamaha did not discuss fuel economy at the media intro for these new motors except to note that replacing an old carbureted two-stroke with one of the new 28-liter four-strokes would result in 30 percent better economy. It may be that with the V6 F200 still in the line Yamaha does not want to make a comparison.
Yamaha Four-Stroke Outboard Motor Corrosion Defect Complaint. The complaint for this lawsuit alleges that Yamaha Motor Corporation USAYamaha fraudulently sold a line of four stroke outboard motors after it became aware that the engine design had a safety defect that caused component parts to prematurely corrode in violation of California. I see it as an inline 4 is going to have more strain put on 4 cylinders vs 6.
Other than gas mileage I dont see where the 4 would be better. Think of it as if it were in a pickup. An 8 cylinder vs a 6.
I can see the 6 being better built. They tend to put strain on unnecessary parts when making a 4 cylinder run with as much power as a 6. 6 Feb 11 2013.
I talked to a Yamaha rep at the boat show yesterday about the corrision issues on their motors Ive heard so much about. According the him it was the early 4 stroke motors that had the isssue not the HPDI that is on a boat Im looking at. He said there is no ryhm or reason to the issue and Yamaha.
Yamaha Sho vs Yamaha in-line four outboard Posted. On 92614 at 825 am to Fifthstring. The F series Yamaha is very dependable and fuel efficient but slow as a turtle by comparison.
The new F200 is a 28l 4 cyl. And the 200 SHO is a 42l 6 cyl. Yamaha exhaust kit install.
F200 F225 F250 - YouTube. Video showing exhaust replacement on yamaha 4 stroke outboard. Applies to 200 225 and 250 hp.
Video showing exhaust replacement on yamaha 4. F200 Inline 4 is 487 lbs with a 20 shaft and 163 cubic inches. SHO 200 is 505 lbs and 254 cubic inches.
The F200 requires minimum 89 octane where the sho is 87. I am also seeing the SHO has a steeper price of about 1800 more but I just can grasp that a certain given boat with a load will run equal with these engines. That was the part that threw me off.
Because he wasnt sure if the problem with the early 2000 year 200-225s also affected the F150s. If someone truly wants to know the complete condition of an F200F225F250 Yamaha with suspect corrosion then yes the power head has to come off. The thermostats have to be removed.
The likely answer is that the 20 between the F200 and the F150 is coming out in the fuel economy torque and higher speed but not at earth shattering levels. As a former owner of an F200 I never regretted buying a motor that pushed my 230BR to 45mph with a load and cruised at 30mph with great fuel consumption. It has been alleged that the corrosion pitting and consequent engine failure typically occurs after only 500 to 700 hours of use.
Because recreational boaters will typically use these engines for less than 100 hours per year it is likely that the engine will fail after Yamahas three-year extended warranty has expired. 200 hp 175 hp 150 hp. IN-LINE 4 200 hp.
The lightest DOHC outboard in its class this I-4 is the perfect lightweight 200-hp solution for small- to medium-size boats. Compatible with mechanical digital or Helm Master EX boat controls. Runs on economical 89 octane.
Yamaha F200 outboard motor is the lightest 200-horsepower 4-stroke on the market weighing in at just 487 pounds. For the record thats 119 pounds and 22 percent lighter than Yamahas F200 V6 or what a comparable 2-stroke weighs. Since the F200 offers slightly greater displacement than the previous Yamaha 27-liter four-cylinder F150 offers you might think the F200 is simply a bored-out version of the same powerhead.
Despite the similarity in displacement the F200 is a totally new design according to Yamaha engineers. Even when loaded up with the extra weight we pop up on plane without and problems speed loss at cruise is negligible. Were always in the ocean so its very rare to be able to cruise faster than 24 knots 28 mph due to conditions.
All that to say the Yamaha F200 inline 4s weigh in at 70 lbs heavier than the 175 SWS when dry. Yamaha 28L Inline-4 F175 F200 20-hour maintenance kits and Yamaha 28L Inline-4 F175 F200 100-hour maintenance kits were created to make regular service of your outboard much easier. Each Yamaha 28L Inline-4 F175 F200 maintenance kit contains all the Genuine Yamaha parts and products required for Yamaha recommended 20-hour or 100-hour service.
Yamaha Outboard F200 V6 4-stroke is a powerful workhorse specifically built to handle the extra loads higher hours and additional demands required by professional operators. This powerful ultra-dependable V6 33L engine takes advantage of variable camshaft timing for improved low and mid-range torque resulting in better power and acceleration. This convenient kit includes Yamalube 20W-40 4M Outboard Mineral FC-W Engine Oil a Genuine Yamaha oil filter and necessary drain bolt gasket.
This kit is intended for use with all Yamaha F175 F200 In-Line Four 28L outboard models. The amount of oil included in this kit is adequate for most of the specifically noted Yamaha outboard models. The 200 I4 is slightly faster than the 175 SHO but it looks like the SHO is generally a bit more fuel-efficient.
