I like some of Yamahas engines but there is no comparison between a 175 Rude and a F150.
Yamaha f 150 vs etec 150. Mercurys testing on the 150 E-tec and 150 Yamaha 4-stroke show fairly close performance but better fuel economy for the Yamaha. It wouldnt seem that Mercury would have any reason to prejudice the data to one or the other. The 150 E-tec is over 80 lbs.

Etec will have 10 year warranty coming out 121217. I found 2004 Yamaha f150 performance test on my boat with good load. Mercury should be as good or better.

I have a choice of a 21ft triumph center console with either a Yamaha 150 four stroke or a Etec 200. Price will be the same since the Etec is already on the. I love my ETEC 150.
I bought mine because it has more torque and is lighter than a Yamaha F150 and because I found an Evinrude mechanic that I trust enough to. The new four stroke SHO 150 hasnt been out long at all and I havent heard of one on an Egret yet. It has a much larger motor cover according to Frank and doesnt do well with the platform.
That 2 stroke VMax would perform similar to todays Merc Optimax that Phil has a crush onbut burn a bunch more fuel. I got my Yamaha FG150 in about 1970 - it was about 100 then. It still plays great after going everywhere with me for many years.

The ETEC is a great engine I love mine but in theory costs more to run. Also consider this. The suzuki DF140 wieghs 410 lbs and the DF150 wieghs 465 lbs.
The yamaha F150 wieghs 466lbs. The wieght difference between the 150s is 1lb. BUT if you go with the suzuki DF140 it will save you atleast 1500 and roughly 50 lbs of weight.
