Wire nuts make it easy to replace the fixture with out cutting and crimping during MFG production wire nuts are easier to use than overhead crimping while installing NEC calls for wire nuts on fixtures crimping NOT allowed mfg a mobile residence the mfg used NEC code too avoid legal conflicts im not saying NEC covers 12vdc lighting.
The wire nut with the set screw will vibrate loose because the set screw puts too much force on the wire and the wire extrudes over time and becomes loose. Buy the right tool make sure it is the tool supplied by the manufacture of the crimp barrel a few thousands difference makes a big performance difference. I would also think that soldering the crimp connector would possibly make the connection more brittle though as long as you replace the plastic sleeve and crimp it onto the insulation it should be OK.
