The water pumps really well no issue there.

No water in the oil just means it didnt affect water getting into the oil. Water is injected into the exhaust above the relief ports so there should always be some spray coming out of them. Maybe you just didnt notice before.
Exhaust and water leaking into lower cowl on my 1997 Mercury Force 50 0E27xxxx. Motor runs rough with upper cowl on and runs good but loud with the upper cowl off. Suspect that exhaust gas is circulating forward into fresh air carb throat when the cover is on.

Hi The water always comes out through the exhaust whether it be through the exhaust holes at the back of the motor or the prop. The cooling comes out through the exhaust as an exit point and for cooling the exhaust. The exhaust housing leg normally fills with water around the exhaust tube or inner housing depending on design.
This is done by design to help cool the exhaust and act as a muffler. Normally however the water will exit through the lower end along with the exhaust. Safely run the engine with the boat in the water.
