Remove the high-pressure fuel line and check for leaks. Squeeze the epoxy from the tube applying a thin layer around the entire leak area if it is coming from a connection point.
Allow the epoxy to dry thoroughly then tighten the bolts in place. If its rubber and its a low psi return line then you can fix it with fuel injection rubber hose and clamps. If its a pressure line it will need a fuel line repair kit.
The supply side is 12 ID the whole length except at the fuel sender youll need to use 58 line there to slip onto the fuel sender. The return line is all 38 the entire way 12 to go over the fuel sender. Sounds to me like you have a leak in the intake or a vac line came loose or broken from the intake. If you dont see anything visually then take some carb and choke cleaner and spray around the throttle body and anywhere there is a gasket if your idle goes down then you have found your leak. You can replace the gasket or for a quick fix you can get some gasket maker and lay you.

Regarding the filter depends on how long it has been on the car. You are going to be working in the area and the filter is not expensive might as well replace it while you are fixing the leak. A suggestion fuel injection rates hose and clamps are better than standard fuel hose and worm style clamps.
