I was driving my car today and noticed the temperature gauge wouldnt go past the the top of the 2 bottom bars. I would try to tighten up that connection first.
It goes from bout 175-180 to 200-210 and you can tell a huge power difference when.
Temperature gauge fluctuates when accelerating. If the gauge is acting up its important to know the actual temperature of the engine. If the thermostat has been replaced I feel the problem might be with the temp. Temp gauge rises when accelerating and drops when not.
Car not over heating alsowhen going up hill car will act like its not getting power. Then it will start running fine again. Water pump radiaitor have been changedbars leaks addedblock seal added.
The car will run in park forever without over heating. But when put in gear and driven the temp gauge rises and. Interesting little issue Ive discoverednot sure how long its been occurring but Ive noticed that the temp gauge needle swings sharply and jerkily.

Ok so my temp gauge is fluctuating sometimes alot more then some it goes all the way up to overheat then goes back down to normal i just replaced thermo stat burped the radiator then a little bit ago it started fluctuating alot more and now when i get done driving it theres alot of antifreeze in the overflow tank and i can see.
The engine warms up to normal operating temp seems to stay there for awhile and then slowly climbs up to the next mark on the gauge and doesnt seem to go any higher. Any time I rev the engine to higher RPMs WOT acceleration or just pop it in neutral and rev the engine to 6k rpm the temp gauge suddenly drops back down to normal operating temp. For instance if you notice the temperature gauge fluctuates from normal to hot you should suspect a fault-sensitive and inexpensive thermostat.
Stuck-Closed Thermostat The thermostat regulates the coolants temperature before it returns to cool the engine. Might be the thermostat or the temp. Scan tool would tell engine temp sensed and a infrared temp.
Gun would confirm actual temp of engine. Thats how I would diagnose my vehicles. Car drove finetemp guage is right at 190 amd never waivers while driving locally.

The temp gauge began moving to 200 then 205 210 bounce back to 190. Temperature gauge fluctuates going down on acceleration heater blows cooler air. When backing off accelerator the gauge returns to normal and the heater blows warmer air.
When in park and revving with hood up the rad hose will cool off to touch significantly and return to hot when backing off accelerator. Oct 15 2011. I was driving my car today and noticed the temperature gauge wouldnt go past the the top of the 2 bottom bars.
It fluctuated up and down depending on if I was on the gas or on hills a few millimeters. I changed the thermostat within the last 30k so Im ruling that out unless it really went bad that fast its only been. A temperature gauge will normally fluctuate as the thermostat opens and closes.
If it is fluctuating wildly then there could be several issues. A damaged water pump. Low water in the cooling system.
Air trapped in the cooling system. A partially plugged up radiator. A bad temperature gauge.
A bad temperature sending unit. My car temp gauge is fluctuating. It will be under the half way mark then go up to the half way mark the drop under it.
I was doing some troubleshooting its leaking. I just had thermostat change. What i do seem to notice that my fan will come on when it gets to that half way mark and then the temp drops down.

Truck idles fine sounds fine accelerates fine. Feel the upper radiator hose when the engine is running hotter than normal. It should be too hot to hold onto for very long.
If it is just warm there is not enough circulation through the radiator and it may be partially plugged. You may be able to feel cool and hot areas across the radiator. RR temp sending unit on a DT 466.
For example on my VW GTI the speedometer goes to 180 but the mid point is 60 mph. In fact its also pretty common for gauges especially temp gauges to just sit in the same spot as long as coolant temp is in a certain range. If the Jeep actually did start to overheat probably over 240 that gauge would rise to red very rapidly.
Temp gauge fluctuating even after replacing thermostat and CTS. A few months ago my temp gauge would fluctuate between operating temperature and below so naturally I checked the thermostat. As I had expected it had broken and was stuck open which explained the drop in temperature.
