Picked up a Gallon of AeroShell 41 mil spec H5606 fluid today from SkyMart in Miami. Aeroshell 41 or any H5606 spec oil is approved and recommended by SeatStar for all SeaStar BayStar and Telefex hydraulic steering. The gallon was 2400 - 6 a quart.

Therefore MILSPEC 5606 if you are in the US or LHM if you are in Europe are the best options if you dont want to pay Seastar prices. I searched and found a few sites where there was a direct comparison between MIL-H5606G seastar recomendation and LHM one by a hydraulic engineer and LHM is almost identical. For me in the UK Seastar fluid is 20 a qrt and and 50 miles away LHM is 8 and 2 miles away.

Has anyone used Aeroshell fluid 41 as a substitute or other mil spec HA5606G oil. Some say you can use regular auto power steering fluid IN AN EMERGENCY as long as you flush your system on returning to port. I am installing a new helm next week and am looking at choices.
Looking for feedback from someone who has changed the power steering fluid for sea star on a cougar. Mine is 9 years old and like brake fluid I know it can absorb moisture. Good fluid is AW32 hydraulic fluid from OReillys for about 20 a gallon compared to SeaStars fund at over 20 per quart.
Post Jan 15. Hi guys I recently installed a new steeringcylinder on a 2007 E-tec 250 with a seastar hydraulic set up. The helm is also seastar but was replaced about 4 years ago.
I loose steering just about every full day tripI make and it gets to where I have to turn it several times before it responds but turns very freely. Once I open the helm fill hole and add a little fluid it goes back.
