Thats a good suggestion. They do sell adapters just about everywhere that plug into a standard lighter socket and have a USB output. I have seen them as low as 500.
But you can use an AUX cord to play music through your cigarette lighter if it is connected to a car charger that also has some kind of radio transmitter. Assess your car stereo to determine what removal method will be needed. Take down the stereos model number.
I eventually decided the wiring for the console USB is just not compatible with Android Auto. I tried a few different options but wound up replacing the cigarette lighter port on the dash with a flush mount dual USB port. I have not had any Android Auto issues since the USB.

Thought I would share this. I installed a new Kenwood stereo in my 11 Limited the other day and got rid of the cigarette lighter power socket. I replaced it with a prewired USB and 18 stereo plug combo which connect to rear inputs on the back of the new stereo.

Ive also been thinking about putting in some USB ports for charging and data transfer in the car and I figured that since Ill be taking the dash apart anyway this is the perfect time to put those USB ports in.
You just remove the existing cigarette power plug and plug in the usb replacement its that simple the plug on the back is factory no wiring needs to be done. This is what the cigarette lighter connector looks like in my Tahoe. This is the power cable the camera came with.
