Checked the inlet filter and it was clean and full of water so it was at least getting this far. When I started it back up I saw there was no water flow going through the engine.
The second is that the water inlets are clogged.
New impeller still no water. Changed impeller still no water Yes. Pull the lower unit off and blow air up the copper water supply tube. If it seems to blow freely next try hooking up a water supply to the tube.
You should get a pretty good flow down the center of the exhaust tower mid-section if water is flowing properly thru the powerhead. If the engine cools and water comes from the tell tale then the pump is the issue. Remove the pump cover check that the key XXXXX for the impeller is in place.
Check that all the gaskets XXXXX 22 are in place. Then lastly check the pump base XXXXX below the pump plate. If this housing is melted the pump will not pump water.
Changed the impeller and the gaskets aluminium base plate on my mariner 75 clam shell type. Before i changed the impeller the water flow was just a dribble. New impeller etc is just the same.
What i do have is loads of water pumping out down through the various slots and holes in the lower leg. But just a dribble out of the tell tail pipe. Replaced impellernow nowater from pee hole When in doubt then pull the lower off again and double check your work.
The new impeller should be installed in the same rotational direction as removed. Make sure impeller holding key is in its proper place flat side to the drive shaft and small rounded side to the impeller. Remove the new impeller and compare the thickness to the old impeller.
Reinstall the old impeller. Install the hose on the intake and pour some water down it then turn the engine a bit to prime the pump. Raise your right hand and read out loud.
Dont fix it if it isnt broken. Have a good day and a great cruise. New impeller still no waterHelp Please 08-09-2012 0718 PM.
I am working on a 1985 DT85. I fired up the motor this year and shortly after realized I had no water coming from pee hole. I re-built my water pump replaced Impeller and put it back together.
Started up the motor with muffs plenty of water flowing through pee hole. Took it to. NEW IMPELLER FITTED BUT STILL WONT PUMP WATER Not unusual for muffs not to work.
You need a really good water flow to them I think because so much is wasted. Far better esp if having trouble on the muffs to use a decent sized tub or tank. You can try it without the thermostat but running without is not recommended.
Briefly ran my 57 merc at idle in the shop after installing a new impeller with my muffs attached but theres no water flow at the exhaust. Shut it down after 30-60sec and Im stumped. Wth I took pictures of the intake and out-flow hoses to be assured that they didnt get reversed and reattached them exactly the same after pulling the brass seawater pump and replacing the old impeller with a new.
After I replaced the impeller the water flow through exhaust dropped off to almost nothing. After reading some posts I determined that there must be an air leak somewhere in the system causing it to loose prime. As it turns out the leak was coming from the Vetus 150 water strainer which I also cleaned out when I changed the impeller.
When i bought it last week it was working fine with water muffs. I started it the other day and no water at all was coming out. Didnt come out the hose or exhaust.
Today I installed a new impeller. There is water coming out the exhaust in the back of the shaft and both holes in the front of the shaft but nothing out of the upper hose. So I buy a boat and take it out on the water for the first time.
We are going along just fine and then we hear a loud alar sound. I shut everything down and look for something obvious that could be wrong and I found nothing after starting it back up I see no water coming out of the spit hole. So I assume the impeller is shot and g buy a new on an replace it.
When I started it back up I saw there was no water flow going through the engine. I picked up a new impeller kit and installed it today. It was the first time ever doing it but it was not too difficult.
After reinstalling everything I started the boat up and let it run for a few minutes but still no water flow. Stick a garden hose against the water pickup tube in the midsection and make sure water is making it up and out of the thermostat hole. You want to make sure the tube or the block is not clogged with anything.
When the impeller is broken it stops the supply of water to the engine and results in overheating. Luckily water pump impellers are relatively simple to install but they do fail regularly so it is wise to carry an extra water pump and tools onboard at all times and replace the impeller at least twice a year. 2 Check the Water Intake.
I replaced this removed the little broken peices of the old impeller and reassembled everything. Started the motor and no water being pumped removed the hose from the output and still no water. So I opened it again and the impeller looked fine spinning with the shaft no slack.
I am stumped put it back together no water. It is blowing hot air. Outboard no water after impeller change.
If playback doesnt begin shortly try restarting your device. Videos you watch may be added to the TVs watch history and influence TV. Checked the inlet filter and it was clean and full of water so it was at least getting this far.
Pulled the inspection cover off and pulled the anode- no water in the tank at all came out. Pulled the water pump cover off thinking a impeller problem and it looks fine. Cover the replacement impeller with petroleum jelly.
This helps ease the impellor in but also acts as initial lubrication as the pump will not be full of water during initial startup. Tie an electrical cable-tie around the impeller. Once the cooling system is full of water with no outlet the impeller just agitates it without cooling the motor.
The second is that the water inlets are clogged. No water is getting to the pump so it isnt pumping. Finally the impeller may be damaged or worn beyond repair requiring its replacement.
Buddies suggested impeller was the problem so I dropped the lower leg replaced the impeller put everything back together and tried on muffs again. Overheated or would have if I had let it continue and again there was no water in the block when I checked after it cooled back down. So evidently impeller is not the problem.
Usually the boat is low enough in the water that the impeller is at or below the water line so it can prime itself. If you were above this and the temp got high its possible that new impeller you put in there is toast it may have been running dry. Turn the impeller and see if the water pump drive shaft turns.
If it does the key is likely all right. To be sure pull the impeller off of the shaft and look at the shaft for the key and also for the condition of the slot in the impeller. When you had it in the water did you speed up from an idle at all sometimes when a pump is weak it wont pump at an idle but will if the motor is running a little faster if this is the case good news.
You still have to replace the pump. I changed my impeller and the motor still did not pee until it ran a few minutes and warmed up.
