I took it to the shop and over the last year have replaced a lot of equipment. Get the motor nice and warm and run it for a bit.
After changing the oil let the engine run to see if its better.
Mercruiser water in oil problems. Mercruiser 30 - Water in oil - Help please After the oil drained it was around 35 litres and the dipstick only showed a marginal if any increase in level. It certainly wasnt noticeable as in on my its up 50 of the fill zone or anything. Couldnt see any water leaking on the exterior of engine.
Returned to boathouse and found water in oil and level had gone up approximately 1 quart. I pulled off intakeexhaust manifold and checked for cracks - no luck. Found center frost plug in head was pushed half way out of the head with signs of slight water leak outside the block.
Oil and water wont mix just sitting and the oil will wipe off the water as you pull the stick out. RUn it and the water foams up and makes a mess. Get the motor nice and warm and run it for a bit.
The little water left in it will either boil off or emulsify in the oil. Change it afterwards and youll be in pretty good shape. 97 57 litre v8 mercruiser water in oil.
Yes a freeze cracked engine will very often fire up and run as though nothing is wrong until. You need to get that wateroil out of the engine asap or you will be looking at a new motor it will corrode everything that normally has oil oil on it. If its not excessive change the oil a few times but first you need to find the cause First check the plugs to see if one bank or the other has rustwater on the plugs to narrow things down a bit.
Video showing oilwater mix draining from old engine. Cracked block after poor winterizing performed by previous owner. Not up on your engine but if it is fresh water cooled and there is a header tank then run it up to temperature so that the thermostat opens and with the cap off observe the water flowing in the header tank if you can see needle bubbles then suspect the head gasket is leaking.
My first thought with water in oil would be to see if there was water in the cylinders did it lock up. If so get some mystery oil in there to keep it from siezing. If the boat is at least a few years old pull apart the risersmanifolds to see if water came from there.
If youve got a blown head or pump seals there by water leaking into the oil and oil leaking into the cooling passages AND a water intake or vent line that is broken or otherwise dumping in the bilge that could explain both. So could a sinking that wasnt cleaned up very well and someone tried to run the motor when it was still full of water. Not an issue when the engine is running as the exhaust pressure blows the cooling water out.
If it starts and runs as well as you say then its very unlikely you have water in the cylinders it could be that there is corrosion around one of the water passages between the head and block which then means there is no clamping effect on the metal insert in the head gasket. 2006 Mercury 60-HP FOURSTROKE. With a Mercury 60-HP FOURSTORKE ELPT EFI outboard engine serial number 1c039935 I had been experiencing power loss and rough idle.
I took it to the shop and over the last year have replaced a lot of equipment. Here is a quick list. Answer 1 of 5.
Please prepare yourself for unhappy news. Water in your engine oil means significant money will soon be leaked from your bank account. The most common cause is a leaking head gasket.
That is a major repair because the cylinder heads must be removed and the gaskets replaced. Take surface tension is 00725 Nm for water and 052 Nm for mercury in contact with air. The specific gravity for mercury is given as 136 and angle of contact is 130 o.
13Find out the minimum size of glass tube that can be used to measure water level if the capillary rise in the tube is to be restricted to 2 mm. Consider surface tension of water in contact with air as 0073575. You have eliminated the manifolds as a source of water.
A cracked block will not change the oil pressure or engine temperature. The fuel system could be causing the engine performance issues when under a load. If you have water in the fuel it will not get into the oil pan sitting.
Has the engine been exposed to temps below freezing. Water in oil but not on top of pistons. Start and run engine the second time at 1300 rpm until it reaches operating tempera-ture.
Check for water in engine oil again. If water is in the oil again the most likely reason is an intake manifold gasket or crack in the intake manifold cylinder head or cylinder block. As this thread was just revived I have re-worked it to remove all the spurious comments and discussion and tried to concentrate the information on the topic of contamination of the the lubricating oil of a 2005 Mercury 90-HP FOURSTROKE outboard engine with cooling water in this case saltwater that is apparently caused by a leak at a gasket or grommet or O-ring or seal of some sort where a cooling water.
I have a 1975 mercruiser 30 140 horse. Im getting water in with oil i pressure tested the block and the head. I lost 3 lbs in about 4 hrs.
My question is does the exhaust exchange manifold have cool. The density of paraffin oil is 8829 kgm³. Water rises to a height of 4 cm in a certain capillary tube.
If the same capillary tube is dipped in mercury the level of mercury decreases to 3 cm. Compare the surface tension of water and mercury if densities of mercury and water are 136 10 3 kgm³ and 10 3 kgm³. A wooden cylinder of sp.
Gr 06 and circular in cross -section is required to float in oil spgr 090. Find the LD ratio for the cylinder to float with its longitudinal axis vertical in oil where L is the height of cylinder and D is. Every engine I run on a hose I run with my water at full stream.
My shop has around 60PSI of water pressure I dont get any water in the engine oil of any of the motors I run. Your intercooler only has air and water going to it. The T-stat in the IOM has not proven to be an issue in other motors but your problem is different.
Thermostat not functioning properly. Check to make sure that the thermostat is of the right type. Check to make sure that the thermostat is properly installed.
Make sure thermostat functions properly. Lack of raw-water flow. Restrictions on the inlet side of the raw-water pump.
I had all the MerCruiser maintenance and service manuals and I dont recall a single mention of routine changing or even checking the level of the oil in the pump. In fact up until the failure I had no idea that there was oil in the pump. My failure was not caused by a lack of lubricant.
There is a seal in the pump that keeps water away from the. As the engine heats up it will evaporate some of the moisture. If youve tried the steps mentioned above and are still experiencing milky oil try replacing it with fresh oil.
After changing the oil let the engine run to see if its better. If the problem persists chance the oil for a second time. A downloadable MerCruiser repair manual is a digitally delivered book of instructions that guides the mechanic in the proper procedures for maintenance service overhaul and troubleshooting of components eg engine electrical drives cooling exhaust fuel system etc to factory specifications.
