LED lights are not the main source that causes the problem. It is the device that powers the LED which causes the disturbance. The power supply of the LED is often called as LED Driver or sometimes but rarely a Ballast.

Its poor RF shielding of your lights no. All LED light modules have the LED light emitting diode mounted to a driver circuit board. The circuit allows the same voltage to get to multiple diodes and handles a few things that are needed to get them to light up.
It takes a little bit of engineering to make sure the driver circuit does not emit large amounts of junk radio frequency noise. Radio Interference happens when your radio device receives multiple signals that use the same frequency. It can be caused by many electronic devices in the vecinity of your radio not only by LED lights.

Sometimes when installing an LED bulb kit or an HID bulb kit in your vehicle the result can be better brighter light but also a side effect of AM or FM radio interference. This is characterized by where you once were able to pick up a radio station with the new lights installed and turned on now that same radio station is just white noise.

A conductive cable such as the input power for the LED headlight bulbs acts as an antenna if the device produces radio frequency energy this can be transmitted through the cable which acts as an unintentional radiator. In this case the bead may be required to reduce RFI.
Only LED lights can be the cause of this interference. As each cable is shielded properly the hissing or noise on the radio should start to minimize and reduce. Until all the interference is gone it will take some time to track down all the connection wires that are related to LED lights.
Some LED headlights can cause staticinterference with AM and FM radio stations when the LED headlights are on. Some of that can be helped using Ferrite chokes. Please share your experience with LED headlights.

Apparently it can also happen with the mains voltage LED lamps although we have not experienced this.

Yeah they can work if the level of junk noise emitted is low enough. The higher the quality of the driver filtering on the circuit board the less noise in the first place. After some research we discovered that the cause of the radio interference was due to the PWM Pulse Width Modulation circuit in the lights which was being picked up by the radio through the wiring.
We suggested installing a ferrite choke on the LED leads and shipped a set of Fair Rite RF chokes to the customer. Our customer reported back that. Wanted to replace the lamps in our dining room chandelier with LEDs.
Have our radio running off the same house circuit and noticed when I replaced the first light there was a considerable noisy feedback coming from the radio. Tried a second and the noise doubled. They will interfere with your AM radio.
My question is is there a cure. I heard from the service manager at the dealership where I purchased the bike that it may be caused by the LED lights interfering with the radio signal. Sounds plausible especially after I did some searching on the internet and found certain LED lights can cause nasty interference with Short Wave Radios.
JC upgraded all his lights in his home with LEDs and now hes having issues with radio reception on his AM transistor radio. Leo says not all LEDs emit RF interference but some do. And in theory all of them shouldnt because its illegal.
But that doesnt change the fact that it happens mostly in cheaper varieties. We spoke to our car stereo go-to guy Jim Cavanaugh of Sound in Motion in Boston. He agrees that the cheap LED kit is whats causing the problem.
He says your husband can try something called a CAN Bus which is a filter you install between the cars light connection and the headlight kit. It might help but just as likely it wont. Yup never get any static on my local fm stations but once I turn the headlights on the static is about 14 of the volume of the music.
