But In esteem power steering can be disabled by removing a belt. Its connected to the Compressor bearing of the car so if you remove the belt the power steering and air conditioning would stop working in the car and the car would like driving the normal steering. So I guess in that case no damage would be done.

Yep you were right the pump has finally gone which makes driving near impossibleordered a new one from ford which was 100 cheaper than i could find on ebay but it still breaks my heart as im only 4 weeks out of warrenty. Also to know is what happens if you put motor oil in power steering. Engine oil will attack the rubber parts in the steering system eg seals and O rings.
